EWTA Advisory Committee Meeting Scheduled
 
The EWTA Advisory Committee will hold its spring meeting on April 13 at 10 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield, Oregon. The meeting will also include a lab tour at EWTA member company, Hexion. Committee members, as well as EWTA and APA members, are welcome to attend. A golf outing and reception is scheduled for the day before. For more information, contact Terry Kerwood at terryk@engineeredwood.org.
 

 
 
Info Fair Registration Opens April 10
 
Registration for EWTA’s 2017 Info Fair opens April 10. The event, along with APA’s Annual Meeting, is scheduled for Oct. 28–30, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in Huntington Beach, California. Info Fair’s “Early Bird” registration deadline is Aug. 22. Annual Meeting registration opens June 28. COSTA Announces Sale of CLT Machine
 
CLT machine imageCOSTA Sanders LLC recently announced that it has sold the first cross-laminated timber calibrating/sanding machine to be installed in the U.S. The machine will be delivered to SMARTLAM, LLC of Columbia Falls, Montana, this spring and will be installed and in operation by this summer.
 

 
 
Steinemann Adds Service Technician to Staff
 
Steinemann Technology USA recently announced that it has hired Pedro Rocha as a service and application technician at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. His job will include training operators and maintenance teams as well as machine repair.
 

 
 
Siempelkamp Provides New Press for Weyerhaeuser
 
Siempelkamp LP recently announced in a press release that it has supplied a new press at Weyerhaeuser’s Grayling, Michigan, location. The new 8-ft by 24-ft, 16-opening press will replace a similar press from the 1980s. The press will be integrated into the existing production line. The scope of supply includes the multi-daylight press with the necessary loader and unloader unit. The press and its components, as well as the complete hydraulic and electrical systems, will be designed and built in Krefeld, Germany.
 

 
 
Huntsman Joins American Chemistry Council
 
Huntsman Corp. has joined the American Chemistry Council (ACC), and President and CEO Peter Huntsman has been appointed to the council’s executive committee and board of directors. ACC is an advocacy organization for the chemical industry.

APA Updates ANSI Standard for Structural Glulam and Rim Board
 
As a national standards developer accredited by ANSI, APA – The Engineered Wood Association has recently published two updated ANSI standards. ANSI A190.1-2017, Standard for Wood Products: Structural Glued Laminated Timber, establishes nationally recognized requirements for the production, inspection, testing and certification of structural glulam and describes its characteristics. ANSI/APA PRR 410-2016, Standard for Performance-Rated Engineered Wood Rim Boards, covers the manufacturing, qualification, and quality assurance requirements for engineered wood rim boards.
 

 
 
National Wood Building Center Renamed TallWood Design Institute, Hires Director
 
The National Center for Advanced Wood Products Manufacturing and Design at Oregon State University has been renamed as the TallWood Design Institute. The institute brings together the OSU College of Forestry, OSU College of Engineering, and the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. It is the nation’s only research collaborative that focuses exclusively on the advancement of structural wood products, and will serve as a national research, education, teaching and outreach hub in the development of tall wood buildings. Iain Macdonald, an international leader in high-rise wood structures who led the Centre for Advanced Wood Products at the University of British Columbia for the past 10 years, has been hired as its first acting director.
 

 
 
APA Launches Canadian Guide for Floor Systems
 
The first in a series of design/construction guides for Canada, Engineered Wood Floor Systems: Construction Guide for Canada, Form R300, is now available on www.apawood.org. The new guide provides specification recommendations for plywood and OSB floor systems under carpet and pad, hardwood flooring, lightweight concrete, vinyl, and ceramic tile. The guide includes options for floor systems with thicker sheathing panels and describes the APA Glued Floor System. It also provides installation recommendations for panel subflooring and underlayment. The specification and installation information is based on the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada and the Canadian Standards CSA O325, CSA O151, CSA O121, and CSA O153. A French-Canadian edition of the guide will be available later this year. Canadian construction guides covering roof and wall systems are also in the works.
