The eighth Panel & Engineered Lumber International Conference & Expo (PELICE) will be held March 31 – April 1 at the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to the 80 equipment exhibitor companies, more than 25 representatives from EWTA and APA members will be speaking on topics highlighting new projects, technologies and markets in the engineered wood industry.
An APA and EWTA team will also be in attendance. Stop by booth #709 to say hello.

EWTA’s spring Advisory Committee meeting will be held in person at the Omni Hotel, CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Held the day prior to PELICE, EWTA members are welcome to attend the March 30 meeting from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Contact EWTA for meeting details.
2021 U.S. Home Sales End on a Mixed Note
Housing starts in the U.S. ran at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.64 million units in January. The January starts rate was down 4% from that of December 2021, with the decline effectively concentrated in the Midwest. Home sales finished 2021 on a mixed note with new home sales up and existing home sales down in November and December. Inflation continues to dominate the business news, and, in turn, speculation regarding how policy makers at the Federal Reserve will react. The rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage hit 3.9% in the last week, compared to 3.2% at the start of 2022, and is likely to go higher as the Federal Reserve reverses its policy course through 2022. Home builders continue to be challenged by rising prices and availability of building materials. Based on estimates from the research staff at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of building materials in January was up 35% from January 2021.

Preparations are underway for the 2022 APA Annual Meeting and EWTA Info Fair, scheduled Oct. 15-18, 2022, at the JW Marriott-Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, Florida.
