Info Fair Early Bird Rate Deadline Approaching

There are more than 50 EWTA members currently registered to exhibit and/or sponsor at the 2022 Info Fair. Exhibit spaces and sponsorship opportunities are still available, but don’t delay. The early bird deadline is September 30.

Four sponsorship levels are offered – Diamond; Platinum; Gold and Silver, with additional opportunities to sponsor the golf or tennis tournaments. Details are available at www.engineeredwood.org/info-fair, or contact Events Coordinator Emily Houg.

EWTA at TP&EE

EWTA will be exhibiting at the Timber Processing & Energy Expo, held Sept. 28 – 30 at the Portland Exposition Center in Portland, Oregon. The seventh TP&EE will spotlight 150 machinery and technology exhibiting companies catering to the lumber and engineered wood products sectors.

In addition to the Expo, two conferences will be included: Sawmill Productivity & Efficiency; and From Forest to Frame: Mass Timber Developments.

Housing Starts and Sales Weighed Down by Higher Mortgage Rates

Single-family housing starts fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 916,000 units in July, the third straight monthly decline. Since April, single-family starts have fallen 22%. New home sales in June were estimated to have run at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 590,000 units, down 29% compared to January 2022. Existing home sales totaled 5.12 million units in June, down 21% from the start of the year. Builder sentiment in August fell to its lowest level since June 2014, excluding the short-lived decline at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic. Real GDP in the U.S. fell at an annual rate of 0.9% in the second quarter. This marks two consecutive quarters of a decline in real GDP, which under the traditional definition implies the U.S. is in a recession. However, employment in July was up by more than 500,000 and industrial production rose by 0.7%. Inflation remains high in the U.S. and Canada, so further tightening of monetary policy should be expected in both countries.
