EWTA Advisory Committee Meets

The EWTA Advisory Committee met Oct. 15 in Aventura, Florida, in conjunction with the APA Annual Meeting and EWTA Info Fair. New committee members Tom Stewart, representing Bostik; John Schone, representing H.B. Fuller; Kevin Carpenter, representing LP Corporation; and Rebecca Tracy, representing The Willamette Valley Company joined the panel to replace previous representatives from their respective companies. Dr. BJ Yeh assumed the APA Staff Advisor position.

Dr. Yeh provided an update on active APA research projects supported by EWTA. The high-strength shear wall modeling project, initiated in 2020 but delayed due to the pandemic, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. A formaldehyde study project, initiated in 2021 in response to EPA’s risk evaluation on priority chemicals, including formaldehyde in engineered wood products, is also expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Dr. Yeh presented a proposed study on inbound foam insulation to address the structural performance of light-frame walls sheathed with wood structural panels when foam insulation is installed between the wall sheathing and studs. The committee voted to recommend an allocation of $35,000 to partially fund this study. The committee also voted to approve the association’s 2023 budget, which was forwarded and approved at the Oct. 18 APA Board of Trustees meeting.
