Writer's Guidelines

The Journal covers a wide range of subjects of interest to the engineered wood products industry, including processing trends and innovations, research and development issues, marketing challenges and opportunities, technical developments, quality assurance trends, certification and regulatory developments, industry health and safety programs, etc.

The purpose of the Journal is to encourage and facilitate information transfer and to improve communication among engineered wood product manufacturers, their suppliers, and other segments of the industry. Feature stories and articles should cover topics of broad interest and significance to the engineered wood products industry, as outlined above. We’re looking for articles that analyze, interpret, and clarify the subjects covered. Articles should be written in non-technical language and follow the standard rules of journalistic writing—objectivity, accuracy, clarity. The Journal is not a vehicle for promoting specific companies, proprietary products or other commercial interests, although articles occasionally may have a product, service or company-specific focus if it serves to illustrate or explain a subject of broad readership interest.

Story ideas are welcome. Unsolicited manuscripts will be considered, but initial queries or article outlines are recommended. Story length is typically between 1000–2000 words, but longer or shorter articles may be accepted. The Journal may edit manuscripts on the basis of space constraints or for clarity. A byline and short biographical sketch of the author accompany all feature-length stories. The Journal typically is unable to offer payment or provides only a modest honorarium to editorial contributors. However, freelance fees may be negotiated in some cases.
