Deadline Approaching for Innovation of the Year Entries
For more than a decade, the EWTA Innovation of the Year Award has recognized companies that provide new technology, product, or services that demonstrate reduced production costs, increased productivity, improved product quality or in some other way provide a bottom-line benefit to APA members.
Submission information for the 2022 award was sent to EWTA members in June and entries are coming in. Ballots will be sent to APA members in September. Still haven’t sent in your entry? Do not delay. All EWTA members are encouraged to submit one or more entries by Sept. 1 to be included on the ballot. Additional information and a link to the entry form follow.

The award recipient, along with three Supplier of the Year award winners, will be honored at APA’s Annual Meeting in October. Supplier of the Year awards are presented in each of EWTA’s three membership categories: Equipment/Tooling, Materials/Supplies and Consulting/Services. All members in good standing are eligible to participate. Winners will also be featured in the Spring Engineered Wood Journal and EWTA social media sites. Contact: LaDauna Wilson.
2022 APA Annual Meeting and EWTA Info Fair Details
The final updates are being made to the EWTA Info Fair and APA Annual Meeting online registration site. Details will be available soon. The events will be held Oct. 15-18 at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, Florida.

Engineered Wood Journal Editorial and Advertising Deadlines
Planning for the Engineered Wood Journal’s 2022 Autumn issue is underway, with distribution scheduled for early October. Feature articles and stories covering topics of broad interest and significance to the engineered wood products industry are welcome. Writer’s guidelines and the 2022 media kit, available on the EWTA website, provide information on editorial and advertising opportunities.
The deadline for editorial content and advertising sales is Aug. 5. For additional information, contact LaDauna Wilson.

Bakelite Synthetics Completes Purchase of Georgia-Pacific Chemicals
With the recent acquisition of Georgia-Pacific Chemicals, Bakelite Synthetics adds to its strong portfolio of products, brand and customers, and builds on its growth strategy of delivering innovative solutions to customers in a sustainable manner. Georgia-Pacific Chemicals brings with it complementary resin and formaldehyde technology and end markets in the building materials, transportation, industrial, chemical intermediate and specialty resins space. This acquisition includes 11 chemical facilities employing approximately 600 in the U.S. and South America. The company’s new headquarters will be based in Atlanta, Georgia. The combined company will consist of 1,500 associates and 21 manufacturing sites operating in 10 countries.
New Raute President/CEO Announced
Raute Corp.’s Board of Directors has appointed Mika Saariaho as the new President and CEO beginning in late November. He will join Raute from Metso Outotec Corp., where he holds the position of Senior Vice President. Saariaho succeeds Tapani Kiiski, who left his position by mutual agreement. Kiiski had been Raute President and CEO since 2004. Chief Operating Officer (COO) Petri Strengell is acting as interim President and CEO until Saariaho takes over the position. Thereafter, Strengell will continue in his role as COO and member of the company’s Executive Board.
